Econo Chip is more of a change in focus than a new product for KPM Motorsport. It represents a new approach to re-programming your vehicle’s computer that offers significant fuel savings across various applications.

KPM have been involved in “editing or re-programming” computer tunes on factory vehicles and systems since 1997 for the purpose of gaining optimum power and performance. This technology has accommodated customers’ requests for particular applications eg. towing, reviving heavy, sluggish vehicles or simply providing people with greater responsiveness and performance from their vehicles.

We have been able to do this by re-programming a vehicle’s factory ‘generic tunes’. Vehicle manufacturers provide vehicles globally for operation in all types of conditions and driving styles. This type of generic computer tune is designed to provide optimum performance across a wide range of conditions. However, it is not designed to offer an exact tune for specific conditions or applications. KPM have been specialising in meeting these needs for many years with our customers by re-programming these tunes to accommodate a vehicle’s specific requirements.

KPM Motorsport has now partnered with a vehicle computer programming company that has been in operation since 1991 and has extensive resources worldwide. This has enabled us to expand our business into the larger marketplace of economy computer upgrades for vehicles that run on Petrol, LP Gas and Diesel. We have named this exciting new computer upgrade, the Econo Chip.

Using our expertise from enhancing and tuning thousands of engines, KPM’s Econo Chip has the ability to save between 8-15% on the fuel usage of most vehicles on the market depending on manufacturer and size of the vehicle. This translates into a saving of between $360-$675 per year on an average mid to large sized car of average vehicle age, travelling average kilometres at today’s fuel prices. Of course, larger vehicles travelling twice the average kilometres would benefit from the 15% scale end of fuel savings, equating to up to $1350 per year in savings and beyond.

KPM’s Econo Chip involves a simple re-tuning of your vehicle to offer a fuel savings investment that repays itself over an average of 10-14 months depending on your vehicle and usage.

What is an Econo Chip Upgrade?

An Econo Chip Upgrade is a computer software upgrade for late model fuel injected vehicles that maximizes the full potential of the vehicle’s engine. The Econo Chip Upgrade allows optimum fuel economy to be extracted from your engine which results in significant savings on your yearly fuel bill.

How does the Econo Chip Upgrade change the way that my vehicle performs and operates?

An Econo Chip changes various parameters in your car’s computer to achieve the desired economy benefits.

The most common parameters include:

• Timing Curves
• Fuel Curves
• Rev Limits
• Camshaft Timing
• Transmission Shifting (timing & firmness)
• Torque Converter Lock Up Point
• Cooling Fan Turn On Temperatures
• Emission Controls

What makes the Econo Chip smarter?

Manufacturer’s tune their vehicles for the average driver who often uses low-grade gasoline and puts the reliability of the car to the test by not meeting recommended servicing intervals or using correct oils etc. To accommodate for this, during the development of the vehicle, manufacturers will make adjustments in terms of fuel efficiency, throttle response, power output, driveability and emissions.

We refer to this as ‘de-tuning’ the needs of the car to suit the worst conditions that the vehicle will encounter anywhere in the world yet still assure the reliability of the vehicle. As a result, there is plenty of room for improvement with a vehicle’s performance and economy.
The Econo Chip Upgrade harnesses these factory tune compromises and enables the full fuel saving potential of the car to be realised.

It is important to note that manufacturers spend millions of dollars and thousands of hours developing the right tune on your vehicle but as explained, they are supplying to global markets in a restrictive environment. As a result, the Econo Chip is able unleash this potential and take advantage of what is already provided to accommodate the specific requirements or applications of its customers.

How much will I save with Econo Chip?

The larger the car, the more the savings will be at the high end of the scale. Similarly, small light cars will be on the low end of the scale.

• 1.5 up to 2.5 litres saved per 100 km
• 10 – 15 % saved off your yearly fuel costs.
• These figures apply for Petrol, LP Gas, and Diesel.

 

How long has Econo Chip been making Economy Upgrades for cars?

Econo Chip has been involved in chip tuning since 1991. By 2001, the company had outgrown four different premises and had extended its staff to 14 full and part time. Today, Econo Chip Group employs over twenty staff and is constantly growing.

Our focus has been shifted to tuning for the economy market with the consideration of fuel prices increasing at a rate not seen before.

Do you offer a test trial period?

No, there is no 'try before you buy' for Econo Chip tuning. .

Will the life of my engine be affected after the Econo Chip Upgrade has been fitted?

No. The Econo Chip Upgrade has been designed to run the optimum ignition timing and perfect air fuel ratio for economy. Damage occurs when the vehicle’s air/fuel ratio is too lean. This means that the car’s piston is detonating due to not enough fuel in comparison to the air in the cylinder. This results in valve wear and the possible breaking of pistons.

When you fit an Econo Chip you can feel safe in the knowledge that the upgrade for your car has been through extensive testing and development procedures ensuring that your car runs at optimum economy and efficiency at the same time as being totally safe from damage.

Does the Econo Chip require any special or additional servicing or tuning?

No, all of the tuning that your car requires is in the Econo Chip program. Once installed, your car is serviced as per normal. There are no special requirements for the chip. This means that once the chip is installed, you can forget that it is there and just enjoy the economy and dollar savings.

Is an Econo Chip suitable for my car and me?

Econo Chip's Economy Upgrades are best suited for drivers who own a Petrol, Diesel, or LP Gas vehicle and travel average kilometres per year (20-30,000 km) or more. We cover all makes and models but the car must be computer controlled.

Owners that travel less than average kilometres will still benefit from substantial savings although the investment might take longer to pay itself off.
